Writing my first review paper, delving deeper into precision med and becoming more fearless.
March 2023
Hello and/or welcome back to my newsletter!
For those of you who don’t know me: My name is Anya Sharma and I’m a grade 11 student from Toronto passionate about biology and tech.
This newsletter is ment to give you a little glimpse into my life and all of the cool projects I am doing!
March was really one of the best months so far. I really didn’t hesitate as much as I always do and tried many new projects (I’ll talk about them a little later so stay tuned!). It really showed the power of consistent efforts and becoming less fearful of change.
Now without further ado - let’s dive right in!
Review: Proteomics and the creation and development of pharmaceutical drugs
For the past 8 months, I have been working on projects in the field of precision medicine. Through searching through the endless rabbit hole of articles on the internet, I stumbled upon proteomics.
As I got more and more curious about this topic — I started going deeper into the applications of proteomics and how they are applied in the field of pharmaceutical drug development and assessment.
What is super cool about this is that the day after I published the article we talked about proteomics in my class for the first time! I was super happy since I already had a deeper knowledge of the topic which was super cool :D
Here is my review paper and video on the topic if you want to check it out! I would be more than happy to receive any feedback on them :)
The A to Z of Precision Medicine
After this project, I felt that I had to compile my knowledge of precision medicine into a short article going surface-level on the different components of this field.
Here I go into the three main fields; biomarkers, biosensors, and pharmacogenomics, as well as go into a couple of the key technologies involved in these.
Launched my personal website!
Less than a week ago I created my personal website! It was a pretty cool process and while creating it I realized just how many cool projects I have worked on in such a short amount of time. It really made me proud of myself!
Here is the website:
Highlights of the month
Organized and presented this semester’s eco-council presentations to grade 9 classes around my school!
Modeled for my school’s Multicultural Week (Funny story but my friend forced me to do this modeling and it was actually quite fun! I would highly recommend doing something like this)
Started painting once again! I made a strawberry painting to celebrate the beginning of spring <3 Super excited to see less snow this season!
Here is a cool collage of the things I did this month!

Some upcoming plans for April:
Wrapping up my precision medicine focus (stay tuned for that 👀)
Running for my school’s SAC elections as the eco rep!
Starting my moonshot @TKS
One thing for you
As the school or the work year starts to pick up the pace once again — I just wanted to remind you of the mindset of done > perfect.
This represented my March in a nutshell. When things get tough it is much easier to just step aside and leave things be BUT I want to remind you how important it is to keep going and keep on that grind for yourself. Remind yourself of just how amazing you are and the perseverance you have.
You can continue the momentum and no matter how tough things get — you will be able to do anything you set your mind to.
So let’s do it!
Sincerely,
Anya
